Thomas A. Gallo entered the healthcare field in 1995 as Executive Director of the Virginia Cancer Institute, Inc., the largest medical oncology practice in Virginia. In this role, he manages a 14-physician practice with multiple locations. In addition, he manages an oncology billing service with clients in six states.
Mr. Gallo has been an active member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) for over 10 years. He is currently serving as Co-Chairman of the ACCC Government Affairs Committee bringing the perspective of the physician office practice to the committee. He has worked with many of the ACCC staff and Board members in coordinating State Oncology Society meetings and regional oncology meetings. Mr. Gallo has also been a speaker and has served as a roundtable moderator at a number of ACCC Annual National Meetings. He was a member of the ACCC Board of Trustees in 2004 and 2005.
Mr. Gallo has been highly involved in leadership positions with many medical organizations. He is currently the President-elect of the Medical Group Management Association’s (MGMA) Administrators in Oncology/Hematology Assembly (AOHA) and a member of the Board of the Virginia Association of Hematology and Oncology Managers (VAHOM). In prior years, he has served as the President of VAHOM, the Vice-President of the Virginia MGMA, and on the Board of Directors of the Richmond Area MGMA and the Association of Hematology and Oncology Practices. Mr. Gallo has also served as the President of the Hematology-Oncology Leadership Network (HOLN).
Before entering the healthcare field, Mr. Gallo was a commercial banker with Marine Midland Bank in New York City and Central Fidelity Bank in Richmond, Virginia. His primary responsibilities included assisting middle market businesses and Fortune 500 companies with their commercial and investment banking needs.
Mr. Gallo received a BA in economics from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and an MS in finance from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was a Dean’s Scholar. He has taught in the Finance Department of Virginia Commonwealth University as an adjunct instructor and has been published in the proceedings of several academic conferences.
